Aptero Let's say that the baby pokemon has so big and heavy head that it is unable to fly. It also like to bite and chew things but because it doesn't have teeth, it's bite isn't that harmfull.
Well, IMO, Aerodactyl has huge head so that's why I created such preevo. Plus I had in mind dull looking Archen.
FerodactylGenerally Aerodactyl was used by many dragon trainers [with Gyarados and Charizard] even if it isn't a dragon. So I decided to create something that could be a dragon type pokemon as its evolution.
Instead of giving it third horn I thicked its skull. I think it could use something like Head Smash...

Honestly, i thought the same thing as you did in a fan fic.
I made Aerodactyl be the baby form (Tiny aerodactyl about knee height) the evolved form would actually be Mega Aerodactyl since pkdex says it's assumed to be the true form of aerodactyl.
finally i made a new Mega evolution which is Rock/Dragon where the Aerodactyl gains arms and a figure resembling Charizard but with the Aerodactyl head and no flame + all the rock patrusions
