This picture is really unlucky.
1) Torchic is just a big headed chicken with cute eyes, I can't see anything in it's design that would make it more interesting in real life version. It's evolutions have something more to work with.
Like most bird like pokemon it, I can't think off something creative with this one.
2) I had problems with sketches. This pokemon was really painfull to get the right idea with it. I did several sketches and there exists 3 close-to-be-painted sketches of this pokemon:

So I was delaying the day when I can paint the pokemon.
3) I resized the picture to 600px width and accidentaly saved. This ruined some stuff and some stuff had to be re-paint again.
4) My GIMP crashed while doing the background. Fortunatelly I had saved just before.

I actually chose the starter in my very first 3rd generation games gameplay. Because it looked better than the other starters... (Yes, I was dissapointed by starters, but not as much as with DDP starters)
